XtremeEDA has employed our extensive experience base to many types of processor systems at various levels. Our experience ranges from processor development and enhancements for function and performance to complete multi-processor system architecture, implementation, and verification. Our projects span the full gamut of processing platforms from economical, low power, embedded systems, to high end, highly coherent and high-performance multi-core systems.

Processor Enhancement

Today’s industry requires processors to be applied in nearly every device, performing a huge range of applications. Cloud servers, for instance, are used in everyday life to provide web browsing and compute services, in systems which are connected worldwide. This type of application requires high processor performance to handle an unprecedented amount of data access and manipulation. These types of systems are highly parallel with many cores jointly handling millions of requests simultaneously. This type of processing pushes the edge of performance capabilities of any chosen technology incredibly hard, and requires high coherency between cores and memory, as well as extremely high-speed interconnects.

XtremeEDA engineers are well versed in logic implementation of cores with high performance requirements and applied state-of-the art verification, performance analysis, and coherency testing. These techniques have been honed on industry standard architectures such as ARM cores and AMBA infrastructure, and also many custom architectures with specialized application features.

On the opposite end of the spectrum from high performance, low power is also huge requirement in a range of today’s processor systems. Battery operated devices used in wearable applications, where heat caused by power draw can be an issue when touching skin, or devices simply in need of very long battery life are gaining market share. Specialized design flows using techniques such as UPF, where control of power can be fine-tuned in these devices are very familiar to our XtremeEDA engineers.

Of course, many device applications require both ends of the spectrum between high-performance and low-power. These are potentially more complex and difficult to implement due to the myriad tradeoffs involved needed to get to a workable solution.

System Architecture/Integration

Given the large number of standard cores available today, most ASIC devices utilize of the shelf logic blocks and CPU cores. XtremeEDA engineers are experienced with the family of ARM cores from the ARM 9 and 11 series utilizing ARMv5/6, to the Cortex-M family of embedded type cores utilizing ARMv7/8, up to the more high-performance Cortex-A series of cores. In recent years the RISC-V ISA has become increasing ubiquitous.

XtremeEDA has worked and partnered with many RISC-V suppliers, including Codasip, SiFive, and Andes Technologies. We have implemented cores in single and multiple processor systems using both homogeneous and heterogeneous architectures, with tightly and loosely coupled configurations.

Many CPU systems today utilize AMBA standard Bus architecture. We at XtremeEDA are quite experienced with AMBA across the range of systems mentioned above. We are well versed in interfacing AMBA with custom logic for many applications, including various SERDES, PCIe, USB, and proprietary customer interfaces.
